Every November, we honor care partners for National Family Caregivers Month.

The theme is “Real Care. Anywhere.”,  which highlights the diverse experiences of caregiving. Whether someone  is sharing a home with someone who has Parkinson’s disease (PD), providing care from a distance, managing PD alone, Providing care in a medical enviroment, (e.g., classes, medical facility, assisted living facilities) care partners shape what real, supportive care looks like.

Three Ways to Care

Everyday Care Partner

Everyday care partners live with someone who has PD and offer  hands-on, daily support. From managing medications and attending  appointments to offering emotional support and encouragement, everyday  care partners are there day-in and day-out to help navigate the  challenges of PD.

What The Parkinson's Fund Provides

The local Parkinson's fund managed by the Pickaway County Community Foundation (PCCF) assists those PD families in Pickaway county and the surrounding area with:

Quality of Life devices, Services and Resources

Examples of recent Quality of life (QOL) devices/services provided to those families experiencing a loved one with PD through the local Parkinson's Fund include: high-standing walkers, laser appliance for walkers when gait freezing is experienced, lift chairs, weighted utensil sets, weighted pens, plates, All OhioHealth Parkinson's Wellness classes are sponsored for persons with PD symptoms. Exercise has been proven to be one of the most effective therapies for controlling PD symptoms.

The Parkinson's fund has assisted the OhioHealth Wellness classes by purchasing equipment allowing for more personal exercises and individual instruction. Classes have grown from one small class to three levels of exercise classes due to the increased incidence of PD.

Free updated PD information is continually provided, (e.g., Clinical trials, seminars, advancement in alternate therapy - surgical and nonsurgical, access to resources for those with new diagnoses, early onset, caregiver support), mailers, an online connected PD community, and our in-person attendance at the Wellness classes,

Moving Day Events

Anytime is the perfect time to show your support for the PD community. Let’s come together and raise awareness for this disease as we continue to share hope and strength with everyone living with PD and their loved ones.

There are Moving Day events occurring throughout the US. As we raise awareness, here are ways you can participate:

Get connected: Make this the month you try a new fitness class, get back to your support group, or volunteer for an upcoming event. Check out our Virtual Events Calendar for more information.

Be a listening ear: by being supportive for people in the PD community. Let’s come together and raise  awareness for this disease as we continue to share hope and strength  with everyone living with PD and their loved ones.

Take time for yourself: Take time to recommit to yourself and focus on your needs and self-care. Make time for things like rest, doctor appointments, social interaction, and fitness. When you do, you’ll have more energy to educate and inspire others!

When you’re part of the PD community, every month of the year is PD Awareness Month— let’s come together to further to share hope and strength with everyone affected by PD!

On-going Virtual Events

Join the stanford medicine PD community (virtual events)

Every month, Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach produces a list  of Parkinson’s-related webinars and virtual meetings with speakers.

What’s the difference between a webinar and a virtual meeting? A  “webinar” has a handful of speakers at most, and attendees have both  audio and video muted. A “virtual meeting” usually allows attendees to  be seen and heard.

We recommend you register NOW for anything of interest. That way, if there’s a recording, as a registrant you’ll  receive an email alerting you to the recording availability. Also, note  that a few webinars have registration deadlines well in advance of the  webinar dates.

Unless indicated, the webinar and virtual meetings listed below are:

  • Times listed as PT. (We are based in California, after all.) Please make a note of the time shown during registration process for EST.
  • One-hour in duration. We suggest you join five minutes before the  official start time.
